They say "you can't get there from here." I'm beginning to believe that nowhere is this adage truer than in southern Indiana.
About a year or so ago, a billboard went up in my town that gave directions to a Holiday Inn Express in Washington, about 20 minutes west of here. The only problem was, it gave the entirely wrong directions; if you had followed the directions, you would have ended up in Petersburg, about 20 minutes south of Washington.
The billboard eventually was corrected with the right directions. However, driving to Washington tonight, I saw another billboard just west of Montgomery, which is between Loogootee and Washington on US 50. At the billboard's site, it's no more than 5 minutes from Washington, and that's if you get behind an Amish caravan.
The billboard was for (you guessed it) Holiday Inn Express in Washington. It said, "15 minutes to US 50 Business," and then some further directions. 15 minutes from that billboard would put you in Wheatland, a small town between Washington and Vincennes on US 50 that has no Holiday Inn Express!
Then, coming back from Washington, I saw a billboard for the new casino in French Lick (which is a hole and should be avoided at all costs because you will lose your money and overspend on food). It said to "turn right on I-231." There's no such beast! Maybe the billboard company is sending a subtle anti-gambling message - you'll drive around for so long looking for "I-231" that you'll eventually get up and go home to play Parcheesi or watch dirty movies or something.
Billboard companies in Indiana - call me for directions to places! I can give you correct directions - on the cheap!

Please note: My policy at Bramble Tamble is to not use real names for private citizens. I hope you will adhere to this policy; hell, it's my only rule here. (But you can use your own real name if you'd like. Cause I'm magnanimous like that.)
